on this bench

words were said

that have been regretted

disputes have torn apart souls

and made friendships impossible

but the bench has never interfered

passionate lovers

have intensified their feelings here

making promises

unbelievable in the eye

of the beholder

the bench though kept it’s mouth shut

I suddenly realized

how much wisdom was needed

to react that way

and I was surprised

to find myself greeting

the bench the next time

I passed by with a touch of respect
