Mulled Wine

How have your teeth

Not yet dissolved

Like sugar cubes

In sweet mulled wine?

How have your legs

Not yet gone brittle

From upholding

So fearsome a beauty?

How has your mind

Not yet shattered

From containing

Such brilliance?

How have your fingers

Not yet liquefied

From writing stories

Like a flash flood?

Peanut Butter

I was like a peanut

Stubbornly intact

When you started to cut me.

Then torn asunder

In an instant

Split wide open

Laid bare just for you.

Now you can do what you like

Making butter or milk

To have with your bread

I’ll be smoother than silk.

Oil Paintings

You taught me about oil paintings

How they’re always drying

Colours evolving

To find their own beauty

Hidden deep within.

I’ll be that for you

Never perfect but improving

Peeling off my layers

To find strength down under.

As I let the sun embolden me

Year after year.

Maternity Ward

Maternity ward

Woman puking everything out

Except her guts,

Good thing, she’s going to need them.

Shrieks and wails and screams

From rooms 4011, 4023, and 4033.

Life so weighty it spills forth

One way or another.

Like a fisherman with too great a catch,

Little fish pouring over the gunnels.

Tiny little generals

Conquering hearts in an instant.

No Hurry

vagabondprophet:

Waves lapping the shore

Nonchalant

There’s no hurry here.

All the time in the world

To reshape the world

The great architect that water is.

Let me share your surface

To traverse your great expanse

Fill me with your breath

So I can glide with ease.

No engine humming

No gasoline

Just you and me

Caressing each other.

You capsize me with a gust

And into your depths I’m thrust

No longer just a sailor, but fulfilling sailors dreams,

I become part of the vastness.
