An old man
Wearing both belt and suspenders,
What are you so afraid of?
Does the weight
Of the world
Weigh more heavily
On your shoulders?
Does time sink heavily
On your body
And you maintain the illusion
Of being uplifting?
Are there too many secrets
Hiding in your pockets
Such mass as to double
As an anchor?
Life can be so crippling
And you’ve endured so long,
Perhaps at that age I too
Will take all the help I can get.
