Socks getting holes
After just three uses.
Are my travels that despicable
That even my clothing refuses to go back?

Backtalk
The city puts
White stuff on the road
To protect against
The white stuff in the sky.
How foolish,
Haven’t we yet learned
Not to talk back
To our mother.

Pom Pom Bandit
First darkness then light
Is this the dawn of creation?
Oh wait no,
Just a flashlight shone in my face
At 6 AM.
Daughter of mine why?
You’re the pom pom bandit
Stealing my heart anew each day.

Waiting
I’m going to be busy today
Rush rush
Go go go.
Legs walking
Arms lifting
Mind waiting patiently
For a chance to be used at all.

Rejected
Wanna go get told
There’s no room for us
At a hotel?
Or eat out
Once all the foods gone?
We could beg for seats
On a bus with no space.
Let’s get every application
Rejected
Torn to shreds.
If we’re neglected
Down below
We’ll be accepted
Up above.

Empty Lot
Empty lot sitting for years
Used to have a house
Full of broken people.
Now it’s jubilee!
Earth has reclaimed it
Swallowed up concrete
With thorns and leaves and grass.
No policy or strategy
Could do a better job,
To restore a bit of peace
To a hurting part of town.

Moon sliver hanging bright
A fingernail in the night,
Scratch away my surface
So we can bleed into one another.
Borders
Let’s make some changes
Can we get rid of borders
Guns and money?
I feel panic slip in
The fissures between thoughts.
Numbers on a spreadsheet,
My exactly lacking worth.
That’s what I fear
Not bears or cancer.
Numbers only tell me
How much I can’t give
To the hungry and alone.
So take down borders
Let the people come
I’ll feed them all
With infinite wealth.
Ignorance might not be bliss
But it just may fill a mouth.

Halo
Eyes aren’t yet focused
Every street light
Has a halo
I walk to the stop
Guided by angels.

I sit here at the keyboard every night, just trying to pour out every last drop of the day.
